Where's Waldo? is a book/cartoon series that has kept eagle-eyed kids entertained for years. Now Waldo has managed to get lost on the iPhone - and, as always, it's your job to find him.
This version of Where's Waldo? (or Where's Wally? as it's known in some countries) is a fun interactive game based around the third book in the Waldo series. There are three game modes - one where you unlock levels by finding everything, another where you can explore all 12 worlds freely and a 'Party' mode where you take on another player in a tug-of-war game based around who can find things quickest.
Besides searching for Waldo, his girlfriend, and the wizard, Where's Waldo? challenges you to hunt down particular characters, objects or scenes. The things you need to find in Where's Waldo? are displayed in a window on the right of the interface, and you need to get them all before the time runs out. The quicker you are, the more stars you will get.
Moving around in Where's Waldo? is very easy and is merely a case of dragging the screen around. A mini version of the entire map appears in the corner of the screen so you can see exactly where you are. I think this could be improved by adopting a pinch-and-zoom approach, and it would make it easier to see the entire picture if you wanted to.
Where's Waldo? is challenging enough to keep you occupied for a long time. If you do get stuck, then you can click on Waldo's dog and he will give you a clue as to where the item can be found.
The graphics in Where's Waldo? are true to the original books, which will please fans. I also like the way that animations have been added to certain parts of each scene. The music is OK, but it does get a bit repetitive after a while and annoyingly, there's no option to listen to your own music during gameplay.
All in all though, Where's Waldo? will appeal to both kids and adults as a fun timewaster for boring journeys.
